Well, yesterday's stage was spectacular, and a reminder why I fell in love with watching the Tour de France -- the crew from FranceTelevisions does some amazing stuff with a few motos, a couple of helicopters, and some cameras.
But it was so beautiful to watch that I couldn't spin during it, I just wanted to pay attention to it all!
That said, I've managed to get the second lot of yarn plied:
And I already skeined it and washed it, I'm just waiting for it to dry so I can wind it into a ball. There's a bit more spun -- again, I won't get it all done before Sunday, but I've got a good enough start on it that it won't be long before it's all turned into yarn.
And now that I've got enough spun to seriously think about the knitting of it, I'll be able to get to that once I get a few other projects off the needles (you can see one of them just in the top right corner, it's a navy beaded cuff, and I'm supposed to teach a class in the making of them sometime in September, so I've been playing with yarn and beads in my copious free time...)
I know that several of us are spinning small amounts during the Tour, so it got me thinking about what to make from such things. I've got about 225 grammes of fibre, and with that, I'm going to make the Lace Ribbon Scarf designed by Véronik Avery. I'll probably have enough for the scarf with a bit left over (oh hey, maybe enough to make a couple of beaded cuffs...).
Another possibility I thought about for this yarn was the Morning Surf Scarf designed by Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer. If you get a copy of the latest issue of Interweave's Spin-Off magazine you'll see this pattern featured, along with several variations of the scarf in different yarns spun by different people. If I've read things correctly, I can make a version of this scarf with as little as 50 grammes of fibre (one of the variations was made with 2 oz, which is a little more than 50 grammes), and I've got a hank of silk/wool that I didn't know what to do with, so I may try this.
But what about other possibilities for small amounts of handspun? Can you recommed anything else? Leave the links or ideas in the comments, please?

I'm doing Bronte's Mitts with my 2 ounces of yak fiber. It's a free pattern by Diane Mulholland, here's the link:

I've got 2 ounces of handspun in a fingering weight that I may use to make Ann Hansen's Brambler. Here's the link:

I used my handspun (about 3 oz, spun and plied into a heavy worsted to bulky weight, along with another yarn on hand and knit a Calorimetry (Knitty pattern). It worked well.

So what are you going to do with your plied yarn?
