Well, as I said in my last post, the unexpected happened:
There's actually one more hank of it, still on the swift, but I managed to get it all spun, plied and into hanks (more or less), and all that just before the final sprint.
I wasn't pushing myself, I wasn't trying to do it, but fifteen minutes every morning (plus a little bit of other time here and there, but not much, quite honestly), and I managed to spin up the better part of 250 grammes.
And it was pure coincidence that it co-ordinated, colour-wise, with my bike.
I wish I could say that this year's Tour de France has turned things around for me. Yes, it's good that they appear to be trying to clean things up. Yes, 1998 was much worse -- but wouldn't it be great to have a clean, exciting Tour in 2008?
However, those of you who managed to meet your spinning goal in the last three weeks -- well, you've made organizing this worthwhile. I'm only sorry that I wasn't up to making it like last year's event, but there's always next year to look forward to, right?
I'll get my Tour Director and Other Half to organize the prize buttons -- as last year, there'll be a yellow for those who met their goals, and a red for those who gave it a very good try.
And do let me know how you did, and whether you'd like to do this again next year -- maybe we can get together some prizes like last time, and make it a great lot of fun!
As for me -- I took a turn on that bike tonight, and was dead winded at the end of half an hour. I need to get out and spin more than I need to stay in and spin, I think. And it made me realize just how amazing the Tour de France can be.
Here's hoping it manages to brush up the tarnish and shine once more.

I really am loosing my mind. I know I had posted a snip-it about finishing my goal on my blog, but I had sworn that I left something here too. Gosh, My goal was to spin 16 oz of merino/faukland mix. It is spun into four skiens. I have not had any time to take pix since we are in the middle of getting ready to move. This was so much fun :)

Well, I made my goal and span every day- bar one, when I was stuck in a car on a flooding motorway for so long tht I just fell asleep when I got in. I figured one rest day was acceptable. I now have 8oz of beautiful laceweight shetland ready to be knitted, and a tangled and confused mess of wensleydale on the bobbin. Good times!
The more I watch the TdF, though, the sadder I get with the doping. I think some of the innocence has gone for me this year.

I finished! My goal was to ply laceweight I finished spinning a little while ago. Barely finished in time, but it's done. It's about 3oz of 2ply laceweight plied on a 1oz Grafton Fibers Swan spindle. One ply BFL and one ply Wesleydale (spelling?) with a plied wpi around 30. An old pic of the spinning in progress, and a sample of the plied yarn at http://threadoryarn.blogspot.com/2007/01/spinning.html
It was slow going at the end although I was impressed at how long a 1oz spindle could spin with that much yarn on it.

I finished, too! It was really fun setting a time goal for spinning the 4 oz of falkland from start to finish. Now I have some nice sock yarn to play with! Great pic of your finished yarn!

OK. I'll own up. I didn't make it this yr. I had my own tour (70 miles+ training) in the middle again PLUS I dogsat at someone's house for 10 days. So I was out for 1.2 the tour. But I did watch every day. More than I did last yr. I finished 4 bobbins of yarn.. not the box. But I am glad I did it and I will do it again. So please host again. Even if it is low key.
I have to admit this yr shocked me more than most. But seeing the younger riders give so much heart it was worth it. I'd be willing to give that much heart again next yr.
